In order to emulate real teaching experiences, majority of the dialogue based ITS systems make use of voice instructions, but rely on typed student input. This paper argues, that in order for a dialogue-based ITS to tailor its choice of tactics in the way that humans do, the student utterances must be spoken rather than typed.
